    presentation day

    today is presentation day
i have come to school early with chuan hao to finish our project
unfortunately i have forgotten to print my script so i have to write it
so for now here is the plan:
    *turn on powerpoint*
    intro - andrew
    human diet - me
facts and descrip about trees - me
    world without trees - shawn
atmosphere(?) & flash - chuan hao
    Q&A - all of us
i plan to let shawn do the "world without trees" section because he did the research
andrew did not do much research and did most of the planning and leadership
so i planned to let him do the intro and Q&A

    careful consideration

after rethinking it a few times, i have decided to change the plan again

intro - andrew-->greeting, introduction of members, explanation of team name
    *start slides*
slide section, human diet - desmond-->facts, human diet, segue for my flash
slide section, plants and trees; facts - desmond-->facts, description
slide section, world without plants - shawn-->results without trees
flash, flash explanation - desmond-->describe what was on the flash
flash, flash explanation - chuan hao-->describe his flash, how he made it

this is what i plan it to be for now

    Editting Of The Plan

the report has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances
after seeing mr kan's presentation, i decided to change the orientation

intro - done by andrew, he'll describe our group name (i'll just tell him what to say)
research info - i will (hopefully) get shawn to present our research that isn't in the slides
slides - done by me, hopefully i can add more information
flash - done by chuan hao, he'll describe our animations, which should be easy
conclusion/Q&A - hopefully andrew knows who to direct questions to...

in the mean time i should put a series of points in my "script"
the plan was to let everyone speak accordingly instead of an exact script
this would make it easier then remembering 3min and 45 sec of words each
for now i'll let everyone come up with their point of focus and other things
the only thing i am involved in is my powerpoint presentation
everything else will be settled by the ones presenting

    Oral Presentation Preparation

after meeting with mr kan for a short briefing, we have planned to meet up tomorrow
we will be meeting after school at the canteen as he won't be present on the deadline
our current situation is a bad one
andrew and shawn have not done the video, so we might have to go without it
after discussing on several occasions with mr kan, i've come up with a "timetable"
brackets beside mean people who are talking

*indefinite meaning timing is not confirmed
intro - 30 sec (possibly done by me)
video (andrew and shawn) - indefinite
video explanation (andrew and shawn) - indefinite
    flash (chuan hao) - indefinite
flash explanation (chuan hao) - indefinite
short flash (mine) - 20 sec
short flash explanation (mine) - indefinite (highlights, extra info if possible)
powerpoint part 1, facts (mine) - indefinite (facts and stuff about trees)
powerpoint part 2, research (everyone) - indefinite (compiled information)
    conclusion, end - indefinite

with this, even without the video, we should be able to get up to 15 min
and if we do get a video, i may be able to take out the research part
the report also needs to be redone
chuan hao said he'll do what he can, as will as do about my part in the project
i have remade my flash animation with a slight change in info
the script for the presentation has not been settled, as i do not know if it can be memorized
that also means the presentation could possibly be made up as we go along
this is easier then a normal script mainly because i'm sure we cannot remember well

    Deadline

I have passed up what has been compiled by Andrew to Mr Kan
However, the recording of the powerpoint has not gone well due to garageband
Garageband reduces the size of pictures to 300x300
So the powerpoint slides cannot be read properly as some words are out of the screen
Mr Kan has extended the deadline till next monday because of this
If i remember correctly he'll be teaching in 1C at the time

    Script

    First Slide

A: Plants and the Atmosphere: Facts and Relationship

B: This is a PowerPoint slideshow consisting of slides of information, and a few flash animations to illustrate what is meant.

A: The slideshow will state facts about plants and trees, and showing how they affect the atmosphere.

    Next Slide

A: As you know, plants don’t really move unless while growing.

B: This is because plants have no reason to move a lot. So they have roots to hold them to the soil.

A: These roots help plants get all the minerals and water they need from the soil and allows them make their own food. Roots will generally grow toward the direction of water

B: The rest of the plant usually grows upwards, unless there is little sunlight, where it would grow toward the area with the most light.

    Next Slide

A: Photosynthesis is a process that occurs in plants. It is the process that enables them to make food.

B: That’s why we can’t make food. We photosynthesis doesn’t occur in us.

    Next Slide

A: As we mentioned earlier, photosynthesis occurs in plants due to chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a green pigment that absorbs and traps sunlight.

B: Most leaves are green because of these pigments. Other leaves have other pigments covering them.

    Next Slide

A: This is a summary of everything that’s been mentioned earlier.

B: Also note, if you didn’t already know, that mushrooms and toadstools are fungi.

    Next Slide

A: Trees are basically large plants, so the almost everything said about plants can apply to trees, and vice versa.

B: Trees and other plants do, in fact, cause harm to our atmosphere. However they generally do more good then harm to our atmosphere. That is why we are still alive in this world.

    Next Slide

A: Trees are living things too. They need to respire just like us. This means they give off carbon dioxide just like us.

B: Also, when living things decompose, they give out carbon dioxide, as well as a few other gases they could be harmful to our atmosphere.

    Next Slide

A: Carbon dioxide is not the only greenhouse gas in the world. There are several other kinds, like methane and nitrous oxide.

B: All of these gases have different levels of impact on the atmosphere, meaning some are more dangerous than others. They are determined by their global warming potential, or GWP.

    Next Slide

A: Apart from saving trees, there are many things that we can do to reduce global warming. For example, taking public transport instead of driving cars can reduce gas emissions.

B: Our diet also indirectly affects global warming. Research shows that breeding livestock contributes the rate of climate change. Running slaughterhouses, meat-processing plants and even pumping water all contribute to the gas emissions.

A: Even the livestock themselves give off carbon dioxide!

B: What’s more, populations worldwide are expected to increase, meaning more livestock need to be bred to satisfy our hungers. In order to do that, deforestation to expand pastures are necessary.

    Stuck

As of this point i have encountered a problems with my flash
If i put in too many things it will take more than 2 min with chuan hao's flash
If i put in too little then i'm going to end up with a series of voiceovers and moving pictures
So i decided to do some more research that will not need a totally new explanation
Something like extending my current topic (human diet)
This means that i can include more information without taking up that much time
As i would not need to start a totally new topic
This is what i've come up with:

1.Methane is created in cows' stomachs by microbes digesting food
2.Methane is also present in cow manure
3.Manure and fertilizers used to grow crops to feed livestock produces two-thirds of global human emissions of nitrous oxide (a gas almost 300 times as damaging as carbon dioxide
4.Producing 1 kg of beef can emit as much carbon dioxide as driving an average British car about 160 miles.
5.Eat soya instead of dairy products
